WHO AM I? WHAT DO I DO?
- The animal behaviorist of the group which is me Claudia does varies of things for our project
- The very first thing I did as the animal behaviorist was basically getting to know our fish like what species is it, how long it lives for what they eat, breeding, habitat etc.
- So what I found was that our fish is: Frontosa (scientific name: Cyphotilapia tilapia cichlid) Can live up to 10 years We currently have 2 males in our tank They need a nest to provide a safe environment for the eggs and possibly the larvae.
- They require a solid surface to lay their eggs. In the wild our fish eat: crickets, shrimp, small frogs, fish eggs, worms, plant material, other fish freshwater and brackish water habitats of tropical and subtropical regions worldwide.
- The majority of cichlids are found in the Great Lakes of East Africa.
- No other species cichlids from the same continent should be housed together catfish and Plecostomus can get along with cichlids.
- When we made some observations in our tank, we originally had 3 males in our tank but we notices that one looked a little banged up and scared, so we discovered that 2 of the males have been ganging up on the other so we decided to move the other male for his safety.
- I also did research on what I should do as an animal behaviorist I found that I should not care so much what the appearance of our tank should look like but if the living environment makes our fish comfortable and safe.
- Also first time aquarist are usually overwhelmed with all the equipment that need that they tend to just buy things that are even sufficient for the fish they have so I should research what suits our fish before buying anything for our experiment or getting new decoration for our tank.
