My Job & Description
Parker -
As the water quality analyst it is my job to monitor and maintain the equilibrium of the tank. This includes testing the water for levels of toxins (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate) and collecting data for our experiment. Why is it important to have a balanced tank? Unsafe water conditions is unhealthy for the fish and plants. It is best to avoid drastic changes to the tank because the stress put on the fish buy theses changes can be harmful. This is why it is important to continuously monitor conditions and make small changes often. The plants should positively help the water quality. Plants also absorb nitrates, which in high amounts can be toxic to the fish. With the nitrates in the tank lowered the overall quality should be increased and healthier for the fish. Why we are collecting the data we are collecting? We are collecting data relating to the nitrogen cycle (nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia). The key thing we are looking at is ammonia as it is the most dangerous for the fish. We are also monitoring the nitrates closely as that is most likely what is going to change in our tanks nitrogen cycle. |
